LAX news thread (updates)

Beitrag von Werkur »

Hi All,

I intend to make this thread the LAX news, with fresh and everything about the busiest airport of the west coast.

For start, about the recent workers' labor agreement:

The workers belong to Airport Workers United, which is part of Service Employees International Union Local 1877 and represents sky captains, baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants, airplane cabin cleaners and security personnel who monitor terminals and cargo areas.

Workers were asking for better job training, increased pay, improved medical coverage, equipment and staff support, said Mike Chavez, a spokesman for the union. He said workers are paid an average of $10 an hour and 97% have no family healthcare.

And a sad story of an old LAX worker....:

Roberto Amaya Canchola, 53, of North Hills, was charged Sept. 12 by a federal grand jury with three counts of making money from immigrant smuggling and three counts of helping passengers evade immigration officers.

The saddest part is that he thought that will never be caught.....

Los Angeles weather, live, update today:

Beitrag von Werkur »

Closures on I-105, well known Sepulveda Boulevard at LAX, both east/west bound, made by CalTrans (California Department of Transportation), due two projects will widen and resurface on-and-off-ramps undergoing:

http://www.lawa.org/LAX/newsDisplay.cfm?newsID=1071

Its long hours full time at nights, the closures is subject to change.
Motorists are advised to avoid this area and to take alternate routes, including:

1. Westbound Glenn Anderson Freeway (I-105) to northbound Sepulveda Blvd.
2. Westbound Imperial Highway to northbound Sepulveda Blvd.
3. Westbound La Tijera Blvd. to 96th Street to Skyway
4. Southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to 96th Street to Skyway

So, not good to come LAX for 4 to 5 days, that might have a little delay...
